Simple and effective network bandwidth test between 2 servers

Need to test network performance (throughput) between 2 Linux servers.

We are using iperf tool (yum install iperf), do it on 2 servers:

Start server listening on first servers (will listen on TCP port 5001, be sure to allow it on firewall)

[root@server1 ~]#  iperf -s
————————————————————
Server listening on TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.3 KByte (default)
————————————————————

Start the test from server 2, connecting to server1 (10.3.1.11):

[root@server1 ~]# iperf -c 10.3.1.11

————————————————————
Client connecting to 10.3.1.11, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 22.5 KByte (default)
————————————————————
[ 3] local 10.3.1.12 port 42450 connected with 10.3.1.11 port 5001
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 1.10 GBytes 941 Mbits/sec
