Upgrading Galera/Percona XtraDB Cluster

Having 3-node Percona XtraDB Cluster (or native Galera MySQL cluster), need to upgrade for various bug fixes, etc.

So called “Rolling Upgrade” – can’t get simpler than that:

[root@sql1 ~]# service mysql stop
[root@sql1 ~]# yum update percona* Percona*
[root@sql1 ~]# reboot

Check that cluster is up and operational, if all good, continue with second node.

[root@sql2 ~]# service mysql stop
[root@sql2 ~]# yum update percona* Percona*
[root@sql2 ~]# reboot

Check that cluster is up and operational, if all good, continue with third node.

[root@sql3 ~]# service mysql stop
[root@sql3 ~]# yum update percona* Percona*
[root@sql3 ~]# reboot

Check that cluster is up and operational, if all good… well cluster upgraded 😉
